Now that the Croft Rink is up and running, ongoing help with maintenance and upkeep is needed. Every evening, for the rest of the winter, snow removal, patching and flooding will be needed to keep the ice in good condition for daily use.   If you are available to help, please feel free to join us between 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm.   See you at the rink:-)

As most of you have now heard, Haiti suffered a catastophic earthquake this week. In an effort to support the Haitian people, Croft Elementary School will be holding a Penny Drive during the next week, January 15-22, to support the world-wide relief effort currently underway. A donation bin will be set up in our school lobby for students, parents and staff. Thank you in advance for your generous support.

Are you free during lunch time (12:00 - 12:50) each day? Are your fingers relatively nimble? Do you have a child (or grandchild) attending Croft that would like to skate or play hockey? If you said yes to these questions, please accept this open invitation to lend a hand at lunch time at our Rink. If our Opening Day at the Croft Rink is any indication, we will be needing lots of help each day. Our ultimate goal is to have the older children become completely independent at tieing their skates, but until then, we could use many more hands.

Croft is very proud of Shane W., from Gr. 3 LeGresley, for winning first place in the Remembrance Day Contest held last fall. Shane's poster, in the Black & White category, took top honors in the Junior category. In addition to a beautiful certificate, Shane also received a fifty dollar cheque for his great poster. Accompanying Shane in our photo are Legion members Sonny Drisdelle and Dorothy Jones. Way to go Shane!!!

January 7, 2010 Dear Parent(s), Happy New Year!!! We look forward to the many learning opportunities your child will experience in the coming months and are as eager as you are to get back into a regular routine. As you know, the debate over homework is an ongoing issue across North America.  Some of the questions that have been raised include “Do children benefit from homework?  Do young children, in particular, understand the assigned homework tasks? Do parents? Are we stealing from family time?  Does homework cause undue stress for children and their families?”
