What a wonderful day we had today!  The children have been preparing for the Croft Olympics for weeks by practicing the various outdoor events.  In class, we have been discussing the 2010 Wnter Olympics and learning all sorts of interesting facts about our country of Sweden.  Today, the children were all very excited to represent Sweden at the Opening Ceremonies and begin our Winter Olympics.  Everything went off without a hitch and it was a proud moment for everyone when the Canadian and Olympic flags were raised as hundreds of children sang our National Anthem.  Monday, the Olympics will kick off with the snowshoeing competition.  Our grade level is set to compete between 9:00 and 10:15a.m. every day.  All parents are welcome to attend each event and cheer us on or lend a hand.  We are in for an amazing two weeks of  fun and activity that will undoubtedly leave lasting memories for the children.  Let the Games Begin!

As you know, Croft is having their own Olympic games to coincide with the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.  A great deal of preparation and anticipation has gone into organizing this event and we are asking for any parents who are able, to volunteer some time to help make these games a success.  If you are available for any day, or part of a day, that would be great.  I am especially looking for volunteers for Thursday, February 18 for the Bobsled event.  Volunteers for this day will be asked to help children get on the bobsled, if needed, and see how far they can go at the bottom of the hill.  This is not a medal event.  If you are able to help, please send a note with your child or call me at school at 627-4086. Thank you and we look a great Olympics! Andrea Hare

At Christmas time Jacob's friend went over to his house and the went to the movies.  Sound like fun! Claire went on to the Croft Web Site last night with her mom.  They read sharing time and they liked it. Nora is going to her dad's house tonight.  He has a big hill in his backyard that is fun to slide on. Whee! Josh had a funny dream last night about a pig falling in a ditch.  It was the weirdest dream he ever had.

Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication about our skating this morning.  As we made our way to the rink, we realized it was being flooded and we were not able to skate.  Luckily, all was not lost.  The kids got to sliding with their reading buddies and go inside to read a book.  Plus it made a great topic for writer's workshop.  We'll try again soon and make sure everyone is aware of our plans.  Thanks and have a great day!
